NowwhatwassospeialaboutthisDivinationhomework?Notmuhreally.Insstheywerewonfamilylineageandweregoingtoseehowthattiesintotheirfuture,butrightnowtheywerejustwonthespellthatwouldshowthemthefamilytree,ormoreauratelythegroupofspellsthatwouldshowalltheinformationneededforthispartoftheourse.Thefirstspellwassimpleenough,andwouldauseabasioutlineofthefamilytreetoappearontheparhment.Thergertheparhment,thefartherbakthetreewouldgo(Drao’streeurrentlywentbaktohissixth-great-grandfather).And,lookingatthistree,heouldfindtheanswertosomethingthathadbeennaggingathimsine…wellsinehehadturnedfifteenandwokenupthatmtofindhisbedandhimselfoveredinbkfeathers.

Thishadtriggeredamemoryofhisabouthisfather:whenDraowasafive-year-old,hehadfoundasimirbkfeatheronhisfather’sbedandhisfatherhadbeeremelyangryatthehouseelvesfornotfindingthatbeforehisson.Draohadneverknownwhy,butthiswasthefirstpieeofthepuzzle.

TheseondpieehadomefromhisgodfatherasaChristmaspresent.Itwasbynoweveryone’s(welleveryonewhodidn’tthinkhewouldbeomeaDeathEater,whihwashimself,Snape,andhisfather)expetationthatDraowouldfollowinProfessorSnape’sfootsteps,beauseofhisskillinPotions,andDraohimselfwasnotagainstthatkindofafuture.Hisgodfatherknewthisandhadsenthima,ratherrge,bookabouttherarestpotionsthatouldbemadeandwhattheirpurposewas.IthadsurprisedDraothatmanyofthesepotionswerefordealingwithproblemsausedwithhavingthebloodofmagialreaturesinyourveins.Thisseemedtobeaproblemmoreforwizardingfamiliesthathadatonetimebeenorstillwerepureblooded.Draohadfounditveryironithatinoldertimes,itwasonsideredmorepuretomatewithamagialreaturethanamudblood…anditdidmakesometwistedsenseheguessed…butsomeoftheombinationswerejustsikening.

ThenthethirdpieehadfallenintopewhenDraohadreadaboutthisonepotionformakingsurethatyourhildwasnotbornwithdominantVeriaeblood.Draohadn’tknownwhataVeriaewas,sohehadgonetohismentorandgodfather,SeverusSnape,toask.AtthetimehethoughtthatSnape’sskinhadpaledafewshadeslighterwhenheaskedhisquestion,andnowherealizedwhy.ButtheprofessorhadgivenhimapassfortheRestritedSetionandthetitleofabookthatwasoneofthefewaboutVeriae.ItwassooldthatitwaswritteninLatinandobviouslybysomeonewithpurebloodlineage,butthankfullytherewasatranstion.Draorememberedhisbloodturningoldashereadtheopeningtext,astheinaldoubtappearedinhishead.

Veriae,morewidelyknowninlegendastheAtraVeritas,orBkTruth,onewidelypoputedareasofEuropeandNorthAmeria.Thesereatureslookedandatedexatlylikewizardsormudbloods.Infatthesereatureshadthesamegeistrutureaswizardsexeptforonedifferene:theirwings.Veriaehavebeenknowntosproutbeautifulwingsofbkfeatherswheneitherveryhappyorveryangry,wingswhihithasbeenseenhavefeatherssofterthansilkwhenhappy,andsharpasabdewhenangry.VeriaearesomewhatlikethePhoenixinthesensethattheytoogothroughtheproessofbeingreborn,whihoursforaVeriaeoneamonth.Insteadofburningtoashesandrisingfromthem,theVeriae’swingssproutandthendisieintoawaterfalloffeathers.Whenallthefeathersfromtheoldwingshavefallenoff,newwingswillsprout(mostoftenduringdawnoftheday).Beauseofthismonthlyrebirth,Veriae(likethePhoenix)seemtoageuptothepointofthirtyorsoandthenstoporageveryslowlyinoutwardappearaneafterward,thoughtheirlifespantendsonlytobetwentyyearsorsolongerthananormalwizard’slifespan.

Veriaetendnottoliveinapak,althoughsometimesgroupsanbefoundtogether,butdodevelopasystemlikeapaksystemamongindividualfamiliesorgroups.OneVeriaeisthe“pakleader”alledthe“autor”whomislookedtoforguiebytheotherVeriaeinthegroup.

VeriaemateforlifeinastartlingproessalledtheAspetusinwhihtheoloroftheVeriae’seyeshangestoamixtureofsilverandgold.InthisstatetheVeriaeanseetheauraofeverybeingandpntaroundit,inludingitself.TheVeriaewilllookfortheaurathatisidentialtohis/heraura.Iftheirmateaeptsthem,theymateforlife.Ifnot,theVeriaeislikelytokillhimself/herselfwithintwenty-fourhours.TherehavebeenaseswhereaVeriaeanlivewithouttheirmateifthematediesbeforematingorinhildbirth,buthardlyeverintheaseofabsoluterefusalfromthemate.
